Content management continues to be a key element in the successful document and submission process. The challenge of creating, managing and tracking content that is being generated in different locations, using different standards at different times, continues to preoccupy R&D and IT professionals alike. Add to this the global complexities of version control and the goal of “submission-ready documents” becomes increasingly hard to achieve.
ViewPoint offers content management capabilities including library services such as check–in/check-out and version control. ViewPoint can be configured to support the DIA Cross-SIAC EDM Reference Model. The EDM Reference Model is a document management initiative aimed at providing a framework for any life sciences company to use as the foundation for a document management strategy. It proposes a basic taxonomy/metadata model that may be used to track and manage R&D documents.
Within the ViewPoint environment, meta data based on the EDM Reference model taxonomy is associated with content and automatically stored and tracked throughout the document lifecycle. The implementation of the EDM Reference Model within the ViewPoint environment enables clients to integrate a common framework and understanding of document management with controlled and harmonized processes for submission management. The end result is a seamless process from content creation through submission compilation.
This holistic view of document and submission processes reveals the basic value and efficiencies of electronic submissions. As the EDM Reference Model continues to progress, Octagon will continue to support the development and implementation of the model within ViewPoint.
